"Grow my business online" usually means one of three different things, and most business owners are trying to do all three at once, which is why it feels overwhelming. Split apart, each one is manageable on its own.
1. Findability: can people actually find you?
This is your website, your Google Business Profile, and basic SEO. If someone searches for what you do and you don't show up, nothing else matters yet, since there's no traffic to convert in the first place. This is almost always the right place to start if it isn't solid already.
2. Presence: do people trust what they find?
Once someone can find you, they'll usually check you out, a quick look at your website, maybe your social media, before deciding to get in touch. This is where consistent content and an active (not necessarily huge) social presence does its job: not attracting people from nowhere, but reassuring the people who already found you.
3. Conversion: is it actually easy to buy or enquire?
This is the one that gets skipped most often. A business can have a great website and an active social presence and still lose enquiries because the contact form is broken, buried, or asks for too much before someone's ready to commit. Worth checking honestly: if a stranger landed on your site right now, would they know exactly what to do next?
A simple starting order
- Fix findability first, it's the foundation everything else sits on.
- Add presence once findability is solid, not before, there's no point building an audience that can't find your site in the first place.
- Check conversion at every stage, it's the cheapest thing to fix and the easiest to overlook.
